Data: Lifeguards and Drownings

The United States Life Saving Association (USLA) has calculated "the chance that a person will drown while attending a beach protected by USLA affiliated lifeguards at 1 in 18 million (0.0000055%)."  In 2011 it is estimated that there were 20 people who drowned at beaches where USLA affiliated lifeguards were on duty, out of 312,747,137 people who visited a beach in 2011.
